Ventolin asthma inhaler is typically used to relieve asthma attacks or when the patient is experiencing difficulty in breathing. It contains the active ingredient Salbutamol which is fast-acting and is effective for treating symptoms of asthma. When inhaled, the drug relaxes the airways of the lungs which allows the person to breathe easier thus alleviating an acute asthmatic episode.

What is Ventolin?

Ventolin Evohaler is a variant of the blue inhaler for the relief of asthma. Its parent name, generic name or active ingredient is no other than salbutamol. Ventolin inhaler treats asthma by minimizing the feeling of tightness in the chest. A dose of one or two puffs will generally relieve the chest tightness for 6 hours. While the onset of action of salbutamol inhalers acts immediately.

What is called the blue inhaler?

Also called the reliever inhaler, the blue inhaler is an immediate treatment for the symptoms of asthma like shortness of breath/difficulty of breathing and chest tightness. Its active ingredient salbutamol is a short acting bronchodilator that instantly opens our airways when experiencing an asthma attack. The drug does this action by relaxing the muscles surrounding the airways, allowing its opening and breathing becomes normalized in no time.

How Does it Work?

Ventolin relaxes the muscles located in the walls of the lung’s small airways and opens it up. This, in turn, will allow easier breathing. Your physician may prescribe this medication for other clinical conditions not listed in the drug’s leaflet.

Indications for Inhaled Salbutamol

Salbutamol treats the symptoms associated with asthma and COPD. It alleviates wheezing, coughing, and breathlessness. It relaxes the airway muscles in the lungs to make it easier to breathe. Salbutamol is available in tablets, inhalers (also called puffer) and suspension forms. They are usually blue in color, so is the name “blue inhaler”.

Albuterol and Salbutamol: are they the same?

Yes. Other names for Ventolin Evohaler are the "blue inhaler", Salbutamol, and Albuterol. They are all made from the active ingredient salbutamol and that relieve asthma symptoms like tightness in the chest. The dosing for inhaled salbutamol can be 'as needed'. This means that they can be used only with the presence of symptoms. Many patients use it only occasionally. As long as the asthma is managed well, salbutamol is less likely needed.

Ventolin Inhalers

Ventolin inhalers are medications that combats the acute/sudden symptoms of asthma. Salbutamol is the active ingredient that reverses the constriction of your airways, the abnormal process caused by asthma. VENTOLIN HFA is another asthma medication with a generic name of albuterol. It relieves bronchospasm and related symptoms. It acts as fast as 2 minutes and relieves the symptoms up to 6 hours. Albuterol does this by quickly dilating the lung’s airways to ease breathing during asthma attacks.

What is the Asthma Blue Inhaler?

Ventolin is the so-called blue inhaler with a generic name Salbutamol. This inhaler comes in a blue case, hence the name. They work by opening the airways in order to relieve the symptoms of asthma. Examples of these symptoms are  wheezing, breathlessness, and chest tightness. They do not cause asthma to go away for good, that’s why they are called relievers. Ventolin inhalers for asthma blue inhalers are available here at Undoctored. We ship orders overnight on most nights of the week, so you can have your order after a couple of days.

Generic Salbutamol Inhalers

The active ingredient of Ventolin, salbutamol, is also marketed in generic counterparts. It is administered by directly inhaling it into the lungs and starts to work in five to twenty minutes. Just like Ventolin, Salbutamol acts by relaxing the muscles in the lung's airways to open it up and make it easier to breath. True enough that Ventolin inhalers are used when you suffer from symptoms of asthma-like difficulty of breathing, but it is also recommended to be used if you are exposed to asthma triggers like pollen, dust, animal hair etc.. Meanwhile, people who experience exercise-induced asthma are advised to use salbutamol inhalers before sport, to prevent symptoms.

Dosing

The standard dose for salbutamol use is 1-2 puffs. This contains 100-200 mcg of salbutamol per puff.

What is Ventolin?

Ventolin is also called the blue inhaler and contains the active ingredient Salbutamol Sulphate. It opens the airways to alleviate the symptoms associated with asthma such as wheezing, breathlessness, and chest tightness. It is only used as a reliever and not a cure. The Ventolin Evohaler contains 100 mcg of Salbutamol, a fast-acting drug that helps stop asthma attacks.

Ventolin Inhaler

Ventolin inhalers are classified as short-acting bronchodilators to provide immediate relief to the difficulty in breathing, wheezing and other breathing problems. It is called a rescue inhaler because it can stop asthma attacks instantly. It is only used as needed, unlike long-acting bronchodilators which can be used daily.

How does Ventolin work?

Ventolin and other bronchodilators aim to relax the lung muscles to widen the airways and make breathing easier. It can also reduce or clear the mucus and relieve an inflammation in the lungs. Another use for Ventolin is preventing the onset of asthma for physically active patients. Some activities can trigger asthma attacks so it is best to have Ventolin prescribed by your doctor.

How to use it?

For your convenience and safety, always follow the instructions of your prescriber in using the medication. Do not attempt to modify the dose and frequency of treatment. In the absence of specific instructions, you may check the directions on the prescription label/drug leaflet. Only use it as needed and as prescribed. If you have doubts on this medication, always clarify it with your doctor. Salbutamol can be used either by nebulizer or an inhaler. Depending on your preference and doctor’s advice, you can administer the medicine either way. Always use it with an appropriate device to get the most accurate dose.

When using the inhaler, shake the canister first before spraying. Remove the cap of the inhaler to expose the mouthpiece. Breathe out first before putting your mouth into the mouthpiece. Close your lips. Push the canister button. Breathe in the mist gradually. Hold your breathing for 10 seconds. Finally, breathe out slowly. If your physician prescribed more than one puff at a time, wait for another minute before taking the second inhalation and remember to shake it again before puffing. To prevent contamination, always keep your inhaler clean and dry all the time. Store it with the mouthpiece in place. The inhaler must be cleaned at least every week. When cleaning, detach the canister from the inside of the Ventolin inhaler. Ran warm water on it for at least 30 seconds. Then remove excess water from the canister by shaking it. Let it dry completely before putting the canister back on.

Ventolin dosage

The only route of administration for Ventolin is through inhalation. For children above 4 years old and adults, using it every 4-6 hours relieves bronchospasm. Some patients are good with one puff every four hours only. For exercise-induced bronchospasm on adults and kids over four years of age, take two puffs every fifteen or thirty minutes prior to exercising. Priming the Ventolin inhaler must be done when 3 of these things happen:

  1. Using it for the first time
  2. It was unused for at least two weeks
  3. It was accidentally dropped.
Priming is performed by releasing four sprays into an open-air, with shaking of the canister for every spray. Ventolin inhalers should be used as directed by your physician, following the dose and frequency. In the event that you missed a dose, take it as soon as you remember. But if the next dose is close, just go back to your original schedule. Do not double the dose to compensate with the skipped dose. As with any prescription medicines, inhalers must be used only by those who were prescribed with. Sharing medication is never a good practice as everyone's body may rest differently with certain medicine. Again, it is not a cure for asthma, so it is recommended to always avoid the things that trigger this condition. So avoid exposure to allergens like pollen, molds, pet dander, smoke, and dust because they lead to breathing problems.
