Struggling with breathing and suffering with asthma can be debilitating and can hinder daily life, while onset attacks of pain or breathlessness can be painful as well as worrying. Taking Sirdupla will help to manage these conditions, with effects of the active ingredients lasting for at least 12 hours.

About Sirdupla

Sirdupla is a medication used for the treatment of Asthma and other breathing problems.

Sirdupla Functions

In the treatment of illnesses such as Asthma, Sirdupla works by preventing attacks of shortness of breath, and also by decreasing the sudden outburst of a medical condition.     The active components in the medication are beneficial in making the airways in the lungs stay open.

It helps the air to easily break in and out of the lungs. It also makes the person breathe in normal with no difficulty. Corticosteroids are also included in its active ingredient which lessens the irritation and inflammation.

Advantages of taking Sirdupla

Difficulty in breathing and being afflicted by Asthma can be exhausting, and it can also affect how you deal with your daily activities. The emergence of pain or gasping for breath can be very hurtful and alarming as well.   Taking Sirdupla will aid in managing these medical conditions. The medical effect of the active components will last for at least 12 hours.

Nonetheless, remember that it is used as prevention and not considered as on the spot treatment. It will not be of help on the exact onset of an attack of breathlessness or wheezing.  That's why having a life-saving inhaler with you is necessary all the time.

Proper Usage of Sirdupla Inhaler

Sirdupla inhalers are classified as a prescription drug. Following your doctor's advice about your medication is helpful for the success of the treatment. The patient may also read the medicine's literature found in the packaging for added knowledge about Sirdupla.   Your nurse and doctor should conduct in front of you the proper usage of this inhaler.

The Sirdupla Inhaler consists of a canister in a plastic case with a mouthpiece and a dose indicator on the anterior part that indicates how many puffs were left in it.
To dispense a dose, stand or sit vertically and hold the inhaler with the mouthpiece at the lower part. Detach the cover of the mouthpiece, shake it well then breathe out to the extent that you're most comfortable. Put the inhaler in the middle of your teeth (without biting it) then enclose it using your lips. Start to draw breath deeply and slowly while squeezing the upper part of the canister to dispense the medicine.

Grasp your breath for at least a few seconds and take the inhaler out of your mouth. Wait for one to two minutes before similarly dispensing another puff. Return the cover of the mouthpiece every after use.
As you finish with the inhaler, be sure to rinse your mouth with warm water or brush your teeth to remove the remaining residues from the medication. It can also leave a pungent taste and it may also cause oral thrush or hoarseness of voice.

Sirdupla Proper Dosing

25 micrograms of Salmeterol and 125 or 250 micrograms of Fluticasone are the active components of Sirdupla Inhaler.   The usual prescribed dose is two puffs appropriately every 12 hours since this is how long the effects of Sirdupla functions. This dose is only applicable for adults since this is not recommended for 18 years old and below.

Your doctor considers the severity of your symptoms before prescribing the medication to you. The dose also depends on your condition. That's why you should not take more or less than what is prescribed.
Every time you use the inhaler, the dose indicator will show you how many puffs were still left on your inhaler. This will help you know when to see your doctor to get another one.    In case you missed a dose of Sirdupla Inhaler, there's no need to take a double dose to offset the forgotten one.

Just continue with your usual dosing schedule.
If you used the Sirdupla inhaler more than what is prescribed, seek your doctor or pharmacist’s medical advice. Irregular heartbeat, throbbing headache, and trembling are the common signs of overdose to Sirdupla Inhaler.

Side effects of Sirdupla

Before considering Sirdupla, be sure to consult your doctor first. Patients with allergy to Salmeterol and Fluticasone or any of the excipients of the medication should not use this medication.

The effect of Sirdupla may also be altered by several factors, so you should notify your doctor if you have any of the following underlying conditions:

  • Tuberculosis (TB) and other lung infections
  • Diabetes
  • Heart disease, including an irregular or fast heartbeat
  • Hypertension
  • Low potassium in your blood
  • Overactive thyroid gland

Same with other medications, Sirdupla may also cause drug-to-drug interactions with the following:

  • Some medicines for HIV
  • Other bronchodilators (such as salbutamol)
  • Antibacterial or Antivirals
  • Medicines which can increase heart rate (these may be called β agonists)
  • Diuretics (also called ‘water tablets’ that is used for treating high blood pressure)
  • beta-blockers (such as atenolol, propranolol, and sotalol)
  • Xanthine medicines used to treat asthma
  • Corticosteroids (by mouth or by injection)
If you are also prescribed with any medications that are listed above, be certain to tell it to your doctor. This will ensure your safety. It will also help your doctor decide if Sirdupla is the best drug of choice for your condition.   Be mindful of the fact that Sirdupla inhaler is used as continuous treatment and it is not an emergency relief in the onset of breathlessness. You should accordingly have a life-saving or “rescue” inhaler with you that can be used during unforeseen circumstances.

Pregnant women or breastfeeding mothers should initially consult their doctor before deciding to use Sirdupla. This will help them to conclude whether it is or not the right medication for you.

The most usual side effects of using Sirdupla include:

  • Sinus inflammation (a feeling of tension in the cheeks, nose, and at the back of the eyes, sometimes accompanied with a throbbing ache)
  • Increased number of colds
  • Muscle cramps
  • A reduction of potassium levels in the blood
  • Headache

If you encounter several of these side effects, or they become worse, notify your doctor right away. You should also call your doctor if you observe any severe side effects specifically skin reactions, worsening of your breathing capacity, and fainting.
